As an international design firm, UNStudio is active across the broadest fields of architecture and design. Our project portfolio covers every aspect of architecture and every typology, ranging from small to large-scale projects, research and theory. The atmosphere within our offices in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Shanghai, and Hong Kong is international, multidisciplinary and ambitious, but also open, non-hierarchical, team-based and friendly, with attention to personal well-being, knowledge development and career planning.
For our office in Amsterdam, we are looking for a model making intern (FTE) who is a registered student to support & inspire our Model Team. Our Team builds on the design process, by translating 3D concepts to physical scale models. The model internship is for a period of six months to a year, and available only for registered students.
Requirements:
Software used:
Rhino 3D is the primarily software used by our designers, and also AutoCad. The Model Team have some specialized programs like Magics specifically geared to the 3D print process. Experience in similar packages is a plus. Where necessary training for the relative programs will be made available.
Tools used:
We use 3D Printers with different technologies – Binding (powder), SLA (resin), & FDM (filament). While printing is an important part of the process, laser cutting is an essential part of our building process. The materials used are varied, and do still include some plastics. The current emphasis has been the re-introduction of sustainable materials, like wood, card, cork and paper, and here a certain proficiency in handwork is beneficial. For this purpose our work space has a number of power tools & hand tools. Creativity, and thinking out-of-the box, is greatly encouraged in the model space. Simultaneously there is a need for discipline in maintaining a safe working environment.
Presentation, Archiving and Documentation:
Our projects are all photographed and documented by the Model Team. We have a physical archive and exhibition space on KNSM Island in Amsterdam. Researching and repairing old projects is carried out there.
What we offer:
A challenging & creative position in an independent young and international working environment. The position offers an opportunity to grow, and make a significant contribution to the continued success of our designs.
