As an international design firm, UNStudio is active across the broadest fields of architecture and design. Our project portfolio covers every aspect of architecture and every typology, ranging from small to large-scale projects, research and theory. For our office in Amsterdam, we are looking for Junior Architectural Designers who want to participate as full team members, working on a handful of our projects, contributing creatively and through their work. This is an open application for Architects of various disciplines within architecture from 0 to 2 years of experience. What kind of tasks?

As a practice that has more than 30 years of building experience. Our knowledge and craftsmanship are strong pillars of our company. Every individual is regarded as equal, as we ask your opinion on how to improve parts of the design. Therefore, we have opportunities to develop your personal interest within architectural processes. Your experience is highly valued, but we encourage you to adopt innovative thinking and an entrepreneurial attitude.

At UNStudio, you will have several responsibilities during the concept-, sketch-, and design development processes. Here you will experience envisioning, diagrams, creating, detailing and realizing complex assignments by transferring them into practice. Also, you will work on a specific part of the project that allows you to explore the design and discuss any findings with your team. You present these findings to the project managers, where they give feedback on your progress and personal development.

What would be my impact as a Junior Architectural Designer?

During your daily work, you will be part of a team that builds knowledge, undertakes research, and applies architecture and design skills in order to future-proof new projects. From our KTC Masterplan in Bangalore to the new Booking.com office in Amsterdam, and from Southbank by Beulah to the Qatar integrated railway project where all employees have impact. You will be part of a team in which you will provide your knowledge and skills for future-proof constructions of new projects.

We believe that the key to ‘future-proofing the future’ is knowledge. Therefore, we continuously coach you to understand the most up to date trends and practices in architecture and beyond. Our mission to producing user-centric designs that are adaptive, resilient and future-proof, and every employee should embrace these aspects in their work.

UNStudio organizes events for all of our employees, such as bi-annual conferences, lectures from designers and ‘lunch & learn’ sessions to explore craft and materials, sport events, such as the famous dam-to-dam marathon, and of course the summer & winter events. All of which are an informal and open method of getting to know other colleagues, as well as learning about architectural innovations.

The Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Architecture

  • Work permit in The Netherlands

  • 0-2 years’ experience as an architectural designer

  • Excellent aesthetic sensibilities and design skills

  • Reasonable good technical understanding and detailing skills

  • Interested in, and able to adjust innovative techniques, materials, design- and building methods

  • Basic knowledge of major software packages like AutoCAD, Rhino, BIM and Scripting etc.

  • Knowledge of Revit is a plus

  • A good team player, good communicator and a pro-active attitude

  • Good knowledge of English both spoken and written
