Associate Director

We're looking for a highly motivated, self-guided and research driven Associate Director to coordinate setting up our Melbourne office.

Full-time · Melbourne

As an international design firm, UNStudio is active across the broadest fields of architecture and design. Our project portfolio covers every aspect of architecture and every typology, ranging from small to large-scale projects, research and theory. The atmosphere within our offices in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dubai and Australia is international, multidisciplinary and ambitious, but also open, non-hierarchical, team-based and friendly, with attention to personal well-being, knowledge development and career planning.

In the start of 2021, we opened our new UNStudio satellite office in Melbourne. For this location, we are looking for a Dutch-licensed Associate Director.

The Position:

This position will require you to coordinate setting up our Melbourne office, alongside playing a lead designer’s role in our Southbank by Beulah project in Melbourne. In this role, you will be coordinating the first three years of the Melbourne office, responsible for creating a business plan, and for acquiring new local work. You will get the support of the Board of Directors who are operating in our other offices around the world.

For the Southbank project, you will also be leading the Melbourne & Amsterdam teams. We expect you to continue growing your responsibility level while helping to train and mentor the rest of the team. You will be a self-guided professional that never stops learning and continues teaching others, as this is key for the culture of the office.

  • Capable of guiding and training a team
  • Fluent in English & Dutch (presenting, speaking, reading, writing)
  • An extra language is a plus
  • Highly motivated, self-guided and research driven
  • Willing to contribute to our collective knowledge culture, international travel and coordination with international teams outside of typical office hours

We look forward to receiving your CV/resume + portfolio + short motivation letter.

What we offer

  • You have the opportunity to work on a high-profile landmark project in Melbourne.
  • You will be part of setting up and extending our Melbourne office.
  • You work with a young international team, comprised of 30+ nationalities, which is highly ambitious, collegial and social.
